Sparrow, sparrow, sitting on the wall,
Chirping chirping, whom are you chattering at?
Lecturing your son who knows how to manage the house,
And your daughter who knows how to embroider:
In the daytime she embroiders a phoenix with spread wings;
At night she embroiders peony flowers.
On top of the peonies drops a bit of oil,
And three sisters compete in combing their hair.
The oldest sister styles her hair into a twisted dragon with a top-knot;
The middle sister styles her hair into a yellow crane tower;
Only the little sister can’t really comb her hair,
And she combs it into a messy chicken nest.
In the middle of the nest there is an egg.
Dad wants to eat it and mom just wants to see it;
And the grandma wants to give it to the youngest auntie for breakfast.
