Lesson 1 Self-Introduction

王：您好，我是王明華。請問貴姓大名？

Wáng Nín hǎo wǒ shì Wáng Mínghuá Qǐngwèn guìxìng dàmíng

方：您好，我姓方，名 叫大偉。

Fāng Nín hǎo wǒ xìng Fāng m0ngzi jiào Dàwěi.

王：方先生，很高興認識您。

Wáng Fāng xiānshēng hěn gāoxìng rènshì nín

方：我也是。那位小姐是誰？

Fāng Wǒ yě shì Nà wèi Xiǎojiě shì shéi

王：她叫趙小梅，是我的同事。

Wáng Tā jiào Zhào Xiǎoméi shì wǒ de tóngshì

方：那位先生是誰？

Fāng Nà wèi xiānshēng shì shéi

王：他叫王大方，是我的弟弟。

Wáng Tā jiào Wáng Dàfāng shì wǒ de dìdi

您好 n0nh3o Hello. (using the polite form “you”)

我 w# I; me. (in some circumstances such as being paired with family term such as

mother etc. 我 has the meaning of “my”)

貴姓 gu=x=ng your honorable last name; a respectful way to ask one's surname

名 m0ngzi name; given name 叫 ji4o call; to be called

先生 xi1nsh5ng mister; gentleman; sir 高興 g1ox=ng happy; pleased
認識 r8nsh= to know; to meet; to recognize

小姐 xi3oji7 Miss; young lady; a young woman; a term of address to a young woman

他 t1 he; him (as with above; this word can also mean “his”)

(她) (t1) she; her; (as with above; this word can also mean “her”)

弟弟 d=di younger brother; a term of address to a boy.
