The Huayu (Mandarin) fever is an emerging phenomenon in current
international society. The demand for learning and the number of learners
are increasing steadily worldwide. Overseas compatriot schools have
long been involved in Mandarin teaching and, abreast of the burgeoning
demand for learning Mandarin, have been moving toward integration
with the mainstream.
To promote overseas Mandarin learning and respond to changes
in global teaching trends and the learning environment, the Overseas
Community Affairs Council (OCAC) assembled a professional team
to develop the Let’s Learn Mandarin series. While the first four
volumes focus on building a solid foundation in language, the fifth
and sixth volumes further integrate culture with language learning,
covering diverse themes such as housing, travel, beliefs, cuisine, and
craftsmanship. In this way, learners can move beyond language training
to gain a deeper experience of Taiwan’s culture and broaden their
perspectives.
The OCAC has tirelessly promoted overseas compatriot education
and Mandarin learning for many years. It is hoped that this textbook will
not only enhance the quality of Mandarin teaching but also expand the
market and showcase the richness and diversity of Taiwan’s traditional
characters.
