On June 15, 2019, Chinese Society of Utah participated in the 42nd Annual Utah Asian Festival located at Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy, Utah. The Festival showcased traditional food, music, art, performances, entertainment, activities, vendors and cultural booths from nearly two dozen Asian Pacific countries including Japan, Korea, Philippines, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Indonesia, India, Polynesia, China and Tibet. Taiwan was represented by a booth staffed by the Board Members and volunteers of The Chinese Society of Utah with the purpose of educating the public with Taiwanese culture and promoting traditional Chinese characters. Thousands of participants visited the Taiwan booth throughout the day and was captivated with the flair and beauty in which our local Taiwanese artist, Mr. Hsieh, demonstrated his skills in traditional Chinese calligraphy and painting. Many participants even tried their hand at traditional calligraphy and learned to write popular Chinese idioms (Chengyu) on a bookmark to take home as souvenir. Many also asked to have their American name translated and written in traditional Chinese characters. The Taiwan booth remained busy the entire day with participants learning about the Taiwanese culture, picking up brochures about Taiwanese culture and tourism, and learning to write traditional Chinese characters. There was a strong interest from participants in wanting to learn more about the Taiwanese culture, people and language. The event was a success.
