TCML-MN Welcomes Nearly 100 Students for Fall 2026

Sing and Learn Mandarin: Discover Taiwan Through Music Mandarin in Action: Language, Culture, and Connection

A new semester, a new journey! TCML-MN Welcomes Nearly 100 Students for Fall 2026

The Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning–Minnesota (TCML-MN) officially opened its Fall 2026 semester on 9/5 in St. Paul. With enrollment reaching a new high, nearly 100 new and returning students came to begin another semester of Mandarin learning and cultural exploration.

Course Highlights: AI, Culture, and Learning in Action

This semester, TCML-MN offers six Mandarin classes at different levels and two new cultural courses. Sing and Learn Mandarin: Discover Taiwan Through Music uses music to explore Mandarin and Taiwanese culture, while Mandarin in Action: Language, Culture, and Connection introduces students ages 14–18 to Taiwanese culture, everyday life, and social issues.

For Level 2 through Level 5 students, AI tools are introduced, with customized AI conversation practice designed according to each student’s proficiency level, giving students more opportunities to practice spoken Mandarin.

Learning goes beyond the classroom. Students were invited to attend Taiwan’s renowned Diabolo Dance Theatre’s Light of Life on September 24 at Minnetonka Theatre in celebration of Taiwan’s National Day. In addition, on October 10, TCML-MN will host its cultural event, Discover Taiwan: Tea, Crafts, Childhood Fun, and Human Connection featuring tea, mahjong, traditional games, weaving, and Chinese calligraphy. Mandarin assessments TECFL and a speech showcase in November and December will give students opportunities to demonstrate their learning.

Third-year student Christine shared “It feels like coming home”. I get to continue learning Mandarin with this wonderful group of friends.”

TCML-MN Director Pei-Wen Fang said: “The center’s three core principles are taking root locally, deepening cultural understanding, and connecting with the world.” Through Mandarin, Taiwanese culture, and community connection, TCML-MN continues to build a welcoming lifelong learning family.
