Introduction 簡介
Tzu Chi Academy Long Island(TCALI) in New York State is one of the 25 Tzu Chi Humanities Schools in the United States. It is also part of the educational cause of the four major missions of Taiwan Tzu Chi Foundation, namely “Charity, Medicine, Education, and Culture”. Tzu Chi educators bring solid academic programs to students as well as character education, which encompasses the teachings of gratitude, respect, love and compassion.
TCALI was founded in 1998 in Oyster Bay, Long Island, New York. There are a total of 24 language classes at this school, ranging from the Pre-K class to the 10th grade, plus the 3-year-old Toddler’s class, and 12 cultural classes. All classes together add up to over 400 students.
In 2023, TCALI was approved by the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) to establish a Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML), so that more non-Mandarin-speaking parents and community members may learn Mandarin and culture together.
紐約州長島慈濟人文學校，是二十五所美國慈濟人文學校的一支，也是臺灣慈濟基金會的四大志業裡面的教育志業的一環。慈濟教育工作者為學生帶來紮實的學術課程和品格教育，其中包括感恩、尊重、愛和慈悲心的教導。
長島慈濟人文學校創立於1998年紐約州長島蠔灣（Oyster Bay），本校語言課共24班，範圍從幼小班一直到十年級，加上年紀3歲的幼幼班，另有12種文化課。共有400多位學生。
長島慈濟人文學校在2023年獲得中華民國僑務委員會核定成立臺灣華語文學習中心，讓更多非華語使用者的家長及社區人士可以一同學習華語文及傳統文化。
Courses 課程特色
Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML) at Tzu Chi Academy Long Island (TCALI) offers two semester courses per academic year, with a total of 24 classes (3 hours per class). Our curriculum is based on “Let’s Learn Mandarin” provided by the Overseas Community Affairs Council, supplemented with thematic and contemporary resources to ensure students receive a well-rounded education. The first and second classes teach language and Taiwanese cultural, such as traditional folk skills, traditional festivals, arts, etc. The third class teaches culture, which includes: dragon and lion dance, calligraphy, tea ceremony, flower arrangement, making Tanghulu (sugar-coated fruit on a stick), painted lanterns, folk snacks, etc. Our communicative teaching style emphasizes practical and real-life situations, enabling students to build confidence and fluency in Mandarin quickly.

長島慈濟人文學校臺灣華語文學習中心每學年有兩期課程，共24堂課，每堂課包含語文課2小時，文化課1小時。主要教材為僑委會所提供針對成人零起點開發的《來！學華語》第一、二堂課是語言課並教授臺灣文化特色，例如傳統民俗技藝、傳統節日、藝術等。第三堂是文化課，內容包括：舞龍舞獅、書法、茶道、花道、糖葫蘆製作、彩繪燈籠、民俗小吃等。我們期待透過實用、真實的生活情境教學，讓學生能夠快速建立自信並流利地使用華語。
