Introduction 簡介
The Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning－Bergen Chinese School (TCML-BCS) was established under the New Jersey Bergen Chinese School to offer adults 18 years and older an unique educational experience in Mandarin, traditional culture, history, and customs.
Established in 1972, Bergen Chinese School (BCS) has become one of the largest Mandarin language schools in the state of New Jersey. Bergen Chinese School convenes each Sunday throughout the academic year at Tenafly High School in Tenafly, NJ. BCS has about 21 faculty and about 200 students from across the tri-state area here to learn not only how to read, write, and speak Mandarin in its traditional form, but also participate in cultural activities, including calligraphy, handicrafts, chess, traditional yo-yo, lion dance, and more. In addition to learning language and culture in the classrooms, students and families participate in major traditional festivities, such as the Mid-Autumn Festival and Lunar New Year (also called Spring Festival). Twice a year, students participate in school-sponsored academic contests, such as our Story-telling/Recitation Contest in the Fall and our Traditional Character Recognition Contest in the Spring.
臺灣華語文學習中心–新澤西博根中文學校(TCML–BCS)隸屬於新澤西博根中文學校，旨在為18歲及以上的成年人提供具有臺灣特色的華語、文化、歷史和習俗等多元化教育。
新澤西博根中文學校成立於1972年，現已成為新澤西州規模最大的學習正體字的中文學校。學校位於新澤西州田納福來市的田納福來高中。學生來自紐約、新澤西和康州地區，目前有21位教師和200多位學生，上課時間於每周星期日下午，課程內容涵括閱讀、寫作和會話，除了語文學習外，還配合多樣文化活動，如：書法、傳統手工藝、象棋、扯鈴、功夫、舞龍舞獅等。除了在課堂上學習語言和文化外，學生和家庭還參與傳統節日的慶祝活動，如中秋節和農曆新年 (也稱為春節)。學生每年必須參加學校主辦的學術競賽，例如秋季的說故事比賽/朗誦比賽和春季的認字比賽。
Courses 課程特色
The Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning class at Bergen Chinese School is appropriate for anyone aged 18 or above, either new in learning Mandarin or have some basic Mandarin language skills and like to explore a variety of cultural activities.
Students will be using the textbook "Let's Learn Mandarin" to learn Mandarin Pinyin, situational grammars, and dialogues step by step. In early stages, students will be able to use the Pinyin phonetics system in practicing pronunciation and typing, write traditional characters and simple sentences through learning the basic strokes, radicals, and stroke orders of characters. They will gradually advance to ask questions and carry on simple conversations among the students themselves, on topics such as nationality, family, occupations, hobbies, daily routine, date, time, places, etc. Teachers will then lead them to experience cultural and custom activities with Taiwanese characteristics.
Planned basic cultural knowledge and activities include:
1. Traditional festivals and customs activities, such as: Lunar New Year, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival.
2. Fine arts: Paper cutting, traditional decorating knot, seal cutting, calligraphy, and traditional painting.
3. Traditional literature/Folkloristics: Tang poem, tongue twisters, allegro (shulaibao) and nursery rhymes.
4. Introducing Taiwan night market culture and folk religious culture.
臺灣華語文學習中心-新澤西博根中文學校(TCML–BCS)旨在為 18歲以上(含18歲)的成年人提供具有臺灣特色的華語文教學，課程內容涵括學習華語文聽、說、讀、寫的能力和多元化的文化活動，適合初學華語文或有一定華語文基礎的華裔及非華裔成年人。
採用中華民國僑務委員會為成人編制的教材《來！學華語》，按部就班地學習漢語拼音、情境式的語法與對話練習。學員們在初期透過學習漢字基本筆畫、常見部首和正確筆順，寫出漢字和簡單的句子。進而體驗具有臺灣特色的文化習俗活動。基本文化常識與活動安排有：
1. 傳統節日習俗活動，如：農曆春節、元宵節、端午節和中秋節。
2. 傳統藝術：剪紙、中國結、篆刻、書法和國畫。
3. 古典/民俗文學：唐詩、繞口令、快板 (數來寶) 和童謠。
4. 介紹臺灣的茶文化、夜市文化和民間宗教信仰文化。
