The Chinese School of Delaware (CSD) was established in 1971. Classes are held in CACC (Chinese American Community Center) facility on Sunday afternoons from 1:30-4:00 PM. There are 2 tracks offered based on students’ background: A-track is designed for students who speak Mandarin at home; B-track is designed for non-heritage students. Starting in 2023, adult classes were added so more people would have the opportunity to learn Mandarin. We focus on introducing traditional culture and listening/speaking/reading/writing abilities. In addition to learning Mandarin, there are cultural classes on topics such as Taiwanese history, geography, festivities, customs, calligraphy, ink painting, traditional chess, arts and crafts, dance, and cooking, etc.
The Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML) —Chinese School of Delaware offers a series of courses designed specifically for adult learners. We only offer 2 classes for the first year–Beginning I and Beginning II. We will evaluate students’ progress and recruiting situation before offering additional classes at more advanced levels. Each course session lasts over a period of 10 weeks, with 3 hours per week (2 hours in person lesson on Sundays, and 1 hour online lesson on weekdays).
Spring session starts in February 2023; fall session starts in September 2023. The textbook used is “Lets Learn Mandarin,” along with other supplemental materials provided by the teacher. We also offer some culture classes specifically designed for adult learners, such as traditional chess and cooking class.
