Introduction 簡介
The Chong Wa School is the oldest Chinese school in Washington state. The school is located in Seattle’s Chinatown, at the Chong Wa Hall. The building was originally established in 1929 as an opera house, yet classrooms for the Chong Wa School were already built-in in the basement of the building. The School was operated by Chong Wa Benevolent Association until 1973, when it was transferred to Chong Wa Education Society as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The School aims to enhance the adult Mandarin program and established the Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML) in 2023. The TCML teaches Mandarin as a second language for adults aged 18 years and above.
中華僑民學校是華盛頓州最古老的中文學校。學校位於西雅圖唐人街的中華會館大樓。這座建於1929年的大樓原本是一座歌劇院，當時學校已經在大樓的地下室設有教室。原本學校由中華會館經營，直到1973年才轉移到501(c)(3) 非營利組織的中華教育協會。中華僑民學校為加強成人華語課程，於2023年成立臺灣華語文學習中心，為18歲及以上的成人教授華文而服務。
Courses 課程特色
Learning Mandarin is an important global trend and there is an increasing demand for Mandarin programs all over the world. The course contents of the Chong Wa School is based on the textbook “Let’s Learn Mandarin” edited by the Overseas Community Affairs Council. This text book follows foreign language teaching concepts. Students learn vocabulary needed in their daily life through natural dialogue, and also through the added contents of Taiwanese culture and cuisine. We hope that through cultural teaching, Mandarin teaching will not provide only as an essential tool for communication, but also as a means to understand other ethnic groups, which may in turn result in mutual reciprocal and trusting friendships.
學習華文是一個重要的全球趨勢，全世界對學習華文課程的需求不斷增加。中華僑民學校的華文學習課程內容以中華民國僑務委員會主編的《來！學華語》為教材。本書遵循外語教學理念。學生通過自然對話學習日常生活所需的詞彙，並加入臺灣文化和美食。我們希望通過文化教學，讓學習華文不僅能成為溝通交流的重要工具，還能獲得其他民族文化的理解，建立互惠互信的友誼。
